Engine Assembly

The most challenging task of engine powertrain suppliers is to ensure that engines are fully validated without errors before shipping. Abraham Innovation Systems offers a vision system with multiple high resolution cameras to inspect numerous points on an engine assembly. Within minutes this system can be set up and fine tuned. This is traditionally a hassle to many engineers who find it hard to bear with the process variables but with our user friendly GUI the system can be up and running in no time. By providing 100% inspection we ensure no engine leaves without being automatically, quickly and thoroughly inspected.

Problem: Our client (a tier one manufacturer in the automotive industry) required a system to verify several features on their engine assembly. Not only did they need an intricate system but also a very fast system to meet cycle time demands.

Solution: We designed and built a 32 camera system to inspect over 100 points on a fully assembled engine checking for feature presence/absence, position, orientation, full engagement and colour correctness. We integrate with existing assembly lines using several high resolution cameras and custom lighting. The cameras are instantly triggered when an engine arrives at the inspection station. It reads the VIN (vehicle identity number) barcode that contains the engine model and its combination type. The cameras perform their inspection tasks independently according to the VIN information. Our system archives all the vision data with a time and date stamp along with a reference number matching the vehicle being inspected. This gives manufacturers full traceability by providing access to archived data and the ability to modify the system based on that data.

Assembly Inspection: Engine Assembly is the perfect choice for any automotive assembly application.
